Student Transportation Suspended Due to Provincial Order to Learn from Home

School Boards across the Province have been ordered to move to virtual learning. Therefore, elementary and secondary school students in Thunder Bay as well as across the province will participate in remote learning following the April Break.

Student transportation will continue to be suspended until further notice except for arrangements made for students with Special Needs who continue with in-person learning and have requested transportation though their school.

Student Transportation Services will resume April 19, 2021

Dr. Janet DeMille from the TBDHU has issued a letter to the local school boards informing them that the suspension of in-person learning in effect until April 12 will not be extended beyond that date and schools can re-open for in-person learning and child care programs from that date forward. With Spring Break scheduled for April 12-16, all Student Transportation Services will resume April 19, 2021.

Senior Elementary School and High School Students Must Register for School Bus Transportation Annually

Student Transportation Service Cancellation Extended Through April 12

The TBDHU Medical Officer of Health has updated her instructions today regarding the suspension of in-person learning.

Due to the elevated numbers of school-aged children with COVID-19 as well as elevated numbers of COVID-19 cases in the community, Dr. DeMille has extended the current suspension until April 12, 2021 which will bring us into Spring break. In-person instruction to students with special education needs who cannot be accommodated through remote learning and who wish to attend in-person instruction may continue to do so and we will continue providing transportation for those students as needed through April 9.

Student Transportation Service Cancellation Extended Through March 28

Under Ontario Regulation 82/20 Section 2(2) (or as current), and Ontario Regulation 263/20 Section 2(2) (or as current) of the Reopening Ontario Act, 2020, S.O. 2020, c.17, the TBDHU Medical Officer of Health has extended the following instructions through March 28, 2021:

Suspend the provision of all in-person student learning and before and after school programs for all schools in the City of Thunder Bay and in communities around Thunder Bay including Oliver Paipoonge, Neebing, Gilles, Shuniah, Conmee, O'Connor, and any school in the nearby unorganized territories

This current suspension extends until March 15, 2021. the need for further extension will be considered closer to that time.

As in-person instruction to students with special education needs who cannot be accommodated through remote learning and who wish to attend in-person instruction may continue, student transportation may still be provided for these students. Please coordinate through your school's Spec Ed department.

Pursuant to the above, all student transportation for mainstream students is cancelled for the duration of the suspension of in-person learning for these students.
